How to Make an Autumnal Gonk.....
We love getting creative with our Pumpkin Grotto decorations. This year Angela taught me how to make a very simple gonk to go on your wall, I was even allowed to use the glue gun! It was so fun I thought I would share, incase you fancy creating one too…….
Gonk production line!
YOU WILL NEED…..
Cardboard (old box is fine)
Glue gun
Fake leaves (or collection of real ones)
Hessian
Chicken wire
Felt and wadding for nose (or skin coloured tights and cotton wool would work)
Wire clippers
Chunky needle and thread
Scissors
A sense of adventure
STEP 1
Cut out a large, flat topped tear drop shaped piece of card.
STEP 2
Layer on your leaves and stick using the glue gun.
leave the narrow top part clear (this is where the hat will go)
STEP 3
Cut a length of chicken wire using the wire cutters.
Wrap around the cardboard bar and mould into place
Use a chunky needle to sew through the wire and cardboard and hold it in place.
Mold the chicken wire to form a crumpled hat sort of shape.
STEP 4
Cut a length of hessian - use enough to be able to double it over so you can’t see the wire underneath.
Make a pocket along the bottom and wrap around the chicken wire.
Use a chunky needle and thread to sew it at the back to hold it in place. Doesn’t need to be neat.
STEP 5
Cut a circle of felt, put wadding in centre of circle and pull edges round to form a nose. Sew the back to pull it taught and keep it in place (can be messy!)
Use a glue gun to attached the nose just under the rim of the hat.
Tuck some leaves or feathers into the brim of his hat
You have made a gonk!
